What is Union Bowling Maroc for?
The UBM exists to establish a common ranking of bowlers in Morocco, whatever their city or association. At present, each club keeps its own scores; without a shared tool, there is no way to compare a bowler from Rabat objectively with one from Tangier or Casablanca. The UBM meets this need with a ranking based on average, the benchmark indicator in bowling (see our article on average and handicap).
How does the ranking work?
The system relies on trust between associations: each one enters the sessions played by its members in its own area of the platform, which then automatically calculates averages and rankings.
- A session counts if it involves at least 2 players and at least 3 games per player.
- The season runs from 1 September to 30 June; July and August do not count.
- A player is ranked as “validated” from 63 games in the season; below that, their ranking remains “provisional”.
- Only active players whose membership fees are up to date with their association are ranked.
- To protect privacy, the public name is limited to the first name and the initial of the surname.

The bonus of 8 pins per game is common practice in mixed competitions: it allows women and young bowlers, who generally bowl with lighter balls, to compete on equal terms in a single ranking.
UBM, ASBM and federation: who does what?
The ASBM is a sports association: it organises leagues and tournaments, including the Intercity Strike Cup. The UBM is a shared ranking tool, open to all associations. Neither is a federation in the legal sense: Morocco does not yet have a national bowling federation. A reliable national ranking is precisely one of the building blocks needed to get there and, one day, to select a national team.
